Wikipedia picture of the day on April 27, 2016: Salineras (salt evaporation ponds) in Maras, Peru. The salt has been obtained in Maras since the time of the Inca Empire, and the site currently has around 3000 ponds of 5 square metres (54 sq ft) each. Salt water is deposited in the ponds from the surrounding mountains, and the water evaporates. After approximately a month, the level of salt reaches 10 centimetres (3.9 in) and is removed in sacks. ift.tt/1MXEVlF
